A number of contractors have been selected to submit bids for five different contracts to deliver tunnels that will serve as a railway junction for Saudi Arabia’s Neom megaproject. Client has invited contractors, including Spain’s Acciona and Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) and Italy’s WeBuild, to submit bids by 12 June, 2023 for contracts to complete the work. The Delta Junction's five contracts are for roughly 5km of tunnel excavation each, to be delivered with drill and blast and cut and cover techniques through hard rock. The tunnelling work will be split into two lots, one for north Neom and one for south Neom. Other contractors selected to submit bids for the works include Riyadh-based Al-Ayuni Investments & Contracting, Jeddah-based Almabani, Seoul-based Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Samsung C&T, Mumbai-headquartered Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Beijing-based China Railway Construction Corporation and China State Construction Engineering.
Aecom has already been chosen as the engineering consultant for the project. Work on the Spine tunnels is also currently being tendered. The contracts will cover concrete works and precast sections installation. The closing date for both contracts has been extended to 11 May, 2023.
China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co Ltd. has been awarded the main contract in this project.
