A team of Boskalis, Besix and the local Modern Building Leaders (MBL) has been awarded the main contract on this scheme. BESIX, as leader of the consortium, will be responsible for constructing 4.6 km of quay walls, together with its local partner. Boskalis will be responsible for the dredging to widen and deepen access to the port. Work set to commence soon with expected completion in mid-2025.
Saudi Arabia announced that its new Port of NEOM is open for business. The port, which is being transformed into the primary seaport of entry to the northwest of Saudi Arabia, was earlier known as Duba Port. Duba Port’s management was transferred from national maritime regulator Mawani to NEOM in 2022. The investment to date of over 7.5 billion Saudi riyals ($2 billion) and the intention to open the first advanced terminal in 2025 demonstrates the commitment to the vision.

ZPMC has been awarded contracts for ten ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes, 30 electric rubber tiered gantry (ERTGS) cranes and six automated rail mounted gantry cranes (ARMG) valued at over SAR 1 billion ($267 million). ZPMC will be working with Siemens Europe to deliver the automation components. The first fixed call container service is being operated by CMA CGM.
US-based construction services company Jacobs has been working as the lead design consultant for this Port of NEOM redevelopment project in northwest Saudi Arabia. The project will transform the existing facility into a net zero, next-generation global logistics hub. NEOM expects the first container terminal Terminal 1 to be operational by 2025. The design and construction will incorporate a range of sustainability initiatives, including recovering and reusing materials and structures where possible and using low-carbon steel frames to construct quay walls. Additionally, the fully automated port will be fully powered by renewable energy.
