Construction of world-scale green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility.
Air Products, in conjunction with ACWA Power and NEOM, announced the signing of an agreement for a $5 billion world-scale green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility powered by renewable energy. The project, which will be equally owned by the three partners. Air Products will be the exclusive off-taker of the green ammonia and intends to transport it around the world to be dissociated to produce green hydrogen for the transportation market.
The developers have issued the Request for Proposal (RFP) for 380kV substation and 380kV Transmission line package. The contractor is expected to be appointed by Q1, 2021. The project will include three 380kV substations i.e, 380kV solar PV substation, 380kV windfarm substation, and 380kV load substation in order to feed the power supply to the world-scale green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility in Neom. The 380kV overhead transmission line of route length of more than 200kms will be interconnected among the substations. Each substation consists of 380kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), medium voltage switchgear, power transformer, station service transformers, HV/MV power cables & terminations, AC/DC auxiliary power supply, control/protection system, substation automation system (SAS), communication system, Fire detection/alarm and safety, and Fire Protection system, civil/structural works and mechanical works.
Engineering, Procurement and Constructions bids are awaited for the planned hydrogen production facility at NEOM powered by renewable electricity. The Project is referred as 'Helios Green Fuels Project'. As part of the EPC scope, following utilities will be constructed:
* Solar PV Power Plant of Capacity more than 2200MW
* Windfarm Power Plant of Capacity more than 1900MW
* Battery storage facilities for power storage around 1600MW
* Hydrogen electrolysis plant of capacity around 2000MW
* Hydrogen and nitrogen storage facilities
* Air separation unit
* Electrical grid system to connect the various facilities
* Green ammonia plant and storage facilities
* A maritime offloading facility including a connection to the ammonia storage facility
The project is scheduled to be in operation by 2025.
